General documents - Joint statement on the situation in Belarus 100 days after the fraudulent election - Delegation for relations with Belarus

Brussels, 17 November 2020 - "One hundred days have passed since the so-called presidential election in Belarus -a fraudulent election held in flagrant violation of all international standards. Although his term of office expired on 5 November, Aliaksandr Lukashenka continues to usurp power, ignoring the calls of the international community and the people of Belarus. He shows no willingness to engage in a genuine, constructive dialogue with the country's political forces and civil society. Repression is not weakening: 25,000 peaceful protesters have been arrested so far, and brutality and torture remain widespread, as tragically illustrated by the death of 31-year-old Raman Bandarenka on 12 November and the despicable ransacking of the memorial erected in his memory. In addition, the Belarusian regime has launched the unsafe Astravyets NPP, posing an existential threat to all Europeans. [...]
